Gleneagles

For those who have already sampled the delights of a golfing adventure across the King's, Queen's or PGA Centenary Courses at Gleneagles, any attempt to convert the unique atmosphere of this glorious place into words or pictures is, in all probability, a futile exercise.

Perthshire, in any season, can be stunning, but the countryside - particularly in autumn - is at its visual best. The light, too, is magical, and lucky is the golfer who has embarked on his or her round either as an early sun spotlights October hues across Glendevon and the northern slopes of the Ochils, or as the evening light casts lovely shadows and contours on the closing holes of the King's and Queen's.

It is the tranquility of the place, particularly early or late in the day, while is a major factor in the absorbing of the Gleneagles ambience, and hard as the photographer may try, that cannot be transmitted to the viewer.

I hope, nevertheless, that the selection which follows creates something of that special atmosphere; one way or another, the best advice is to put Gleneagles on your own golfing agenda - soon!
