Photograph of sunset, Forth Road Bridge
Sunset behind the Forth Bridges is invariably dramatic, particularly during the summer months when angles are right. This one was no exception, despite the presence of some "nuisance" clouds at just the wrong time......
While many previous photographs of sunsets on the Forth had been taken, the opportunity to try to grab another one was much too good to miss, especially since the day's main task had been accomplished and Mrs. Ford was not expected back early from a girls' night out anyway!
Sadly, the Forth Rail Bridge was still on the "unphotographable" list, since it remained swathed in bandages as repair work continued. A swift detour to the Binks car park, then quick sprint to the eastern wall of old Queensferry harbour was sufficiently well-timed to allow this view through masts and ropes towards the Road Bridge as the sun prepared to retire for the day.
The presence of rogue cloud, while providing some nice patterns in the sky, could well have been done without but, after viewing the final composition, the scene was perhaps enhanced, rather than damaged, by it. The viewer, as always, will provide the verdict!
One way or another, however, it proves yet again that the setting sun, water and suitable marine paraphernalia ( of ALL descriptions ) provide a heady mix for the photographer who has made all the right plans - or is simply lucky enough - to be there to capture the scene.
